Rocket Riot

After our nice little Xbox Live downtime I felt I should blow the last 800 points on a new arcade game I took a chance (after the demo) on Rocket Riot, and man did I bet on the right horse. Hit the jump for my review. The game plays like a cross between Worm Armageddon, and a sick twisted version of Geometry Wars. You fly around as one of a few hundred possible characters (ranging from zombies, robot, ninjas, pirates, ice cream cones, Santa, and some that I can’t even figure out) all of which are unlocked via blowing them up. The controls are simple left stick moves, right stick aim/fire rockets, and if you nab a power up ‘A’ activates it (unless it’s a power down in which case auto-active).

The game has a story mode (involving the loss of everyone legs, a city with a name even the villain cant remember, and tons of odd twist, and small bits of humor) with 80 levels. Each level either pits you in a death match, a capture the flag type mission, a hide and seek round where you must find several character hidden in the environment (which is completely destructible) using a hot/cold meter, or lastly a destroy the object mission. All these modes are ridiculously fun, and well worth it. The learning curve isn’t to steep but it does get hard (at first I was breezing through it, and some level took like 12 tries!)

Look at all that Pixely goodness

Overall a great game. The fact that all this is only 800 Microsoft point, and includes all the above and a few other fun modes such as, Online/Offline versus modes (in any of the four game types from the story mode), and an offline co-op survival mode. This game is a must have for any casual or hardcore gamer, plus doesn’t hurt that the achievement are fun, and not impossible like some other games. Please Enjoy!
