Who You Gonna Call? Sony

Atari Inc’s CEO and president Jim Wilson said that Ghostbusters: The Video Game will be released on all formats in North America June 16 but Sony Europe revealed that it had signed a deal with Atari to publish just the PlayStation SKUs leaving the remaining Wii, DS, PC and Xbox 360 versions on hold for now in Europe.
“The Sony Computer Entertainment partnership is exclusive to Europe, Atari is going to be publishing all platforms in the US on June 16,” clarified Jim Wilson Atari Inc’s CEO and president.
“We assessed the situation of the Ghostbusters franchise in Europe and saw that a united partnership with Sony was the best approach to maximise the long-term value of the franchise. We have an opportunity here to have first-party support behind such a significant franchise and the opportunity to then go back and publish the other SKUs later on.”
“In partnership with both Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a unique opportunity to add new game products and expand marketing opportunities to reach Ghostbusters fans in Europe.”
It is unclear exactly what will happen to the Xbox 360, DS and Wii versions of the game, although Atari may look to publish them at a later date. This will be the third publisher within a year for the Ghostbusters game, with the former Vivendi title being dropped by Activision in the merger last summer, before subsequently being picked up by Atari.
My take is that Atari is going to make bank from Sony. We all know they have been in a buget crunch. What do you think? I know if I lived in Europe and was not a Sony fanboy I would be pissed.
