New “Family Feature” & Hasbro FGN: Battleship Review (XBLA) [UPDATE w/ CONTEST]

Hello EG readers. I present to you what we are hoping becomes a weekly feature, if not more, here on EG. Games brought to you from the “Family” perspective. We took a family of six, locked them in a room and forced them to play Hasbro Family Game Night’s “Battleship”. To me Hasbro Family Game Night looks like a shell, hosted by Mr. Potato Head, and inside that shell you have the option of buying four different titles, each being 800 MSP. Those titles are Yatzhee, Connect Four, Boggle, and the title we highlight this week in the new “EG Family Feature” is Battleship. So without further ado I give you the Luck503 family on Battleship.

Hasbro Family Game Night

Its Battleship!!! On the 360! I don’t have to pick up the small little pieces on the floor nor take them out of my puppies mouth and shout a lil “no!”. There is a lot less arguing over where to put the ships where and just the calm of a good family game night. It makes sense for us!!! Now we can play as a family, have fun as a family, laugh and take turns, CALMLY, as a family… Playing Battleship on the Xbox 360 assures that everyone has a turn and that the game play is fare and safe, as no small pieces! :)

Our family of six has enjoyed this game very much, there are three different game modes to choose from; Salvo Mode, Super Weapons and custom modes. There is also online Xbox Live play for your bombing of distant family and/or friends. If I were to make a complaint about a very well put together game, it would be that on the random placement of ships, I don’t know where my own ships are, but then again neither does my opponent.

Our daughter, age 9, thinks Battleship is “cool because it helps our family play board games together” but wishes “the demo would give a little more play time.” Our son, age 7, says, “I love all the special modes because it makes the old school games look cooler” and he wishes of more variety in the game. Our 12-year old likes the game and thinks its just “cool” but this was just after watching his 4-year old sister beat him at it… :) Personally, at age 30+, I think it has just the right amount of variety but would like a different price; just for the fact that there are so many different games to choose from the Family Fun Night menu. At 800 MSP ($10) each its starts to add up pretty quickly and with a family of six to take care of… Maybe if a bundle was offered we would be more inclined to pick up the rest of Hasbro’s Family Game Night lineup.

All in all Battleship is a great game and just about what you would expect but adds some nice extra flares you can’t replicate with the physical board game. If you were hesitant about this title then be no more! Battleship is wonderful family fun for everyone!!Thanks and Hope you enjoy!!
