New “Family Feature” & Hasbro FGN: Battleship Review (XBLA) [UPDATE w/ CONTEST]
Hello EG readers. I present to you what we are hoping becomes a weekly feature, if not more, here on EG. Games brought to you from the “Family” perspective. We took a family of six, locked them in a room and forced them to play Hasbro Family Game Night’s “Battleship”. To me Hasbro Family Game Night looks like a shell, hosted by Mr. Potato Head, and inside that shell you have the option of buying four different titles, each being 800 MSP. Those titles are Yatzhee, Connect Four, Boggle, and the title we highlight this week in the new “EG Family Feature” is Battleship. So without further ado I give you the Luck503 family on Battleship.

Its Battleship!!! On the 360! I don’t have to pick up the small little pieces on the floor nor take them out of my puppies mouth and shout a lil “no!”. There is a lot less arguing over where to put the ships where and just the calm of a good family game night. It makes sense for us!!! Now we can play as a family, have fun as a family, laugh and take turns, CALMLY, as a family… Playing Battleship on the Xbox 360 assures that everyone has a turn and that the game play is fare and safe, as no small pieces!

Our family of six has enjoyed this game very much, there are three different game modes to choose from; Salvo Mode, Super Weapons and custom modes. There is also online Xbox Live play for your bombing of distant family and/or friends. If I were to make a complaint about a very well put together game, it would be that on the random placement of ships, I don’t know where my own ships are, but then again neither does my opponent.
Our daughter, age 9, thinks Battleship is “cool because it helps our family play board games together” but wishes “the demo would give a little more play time.” Our son, age 7, says, “I love all the special modes because it makes the old school games look cooler” and he wishes of more variety in the game. Our 12-year old likes the game and thinks its just “cool” but this was just after watching his 4-year old sister beat him at it…
Personally, at age 30+, I think it has just the right amount of variety but would like a different price; just for the fact that there are so many different games to choose from the Family Fun Night menu. At 800 MSP ($10) each its starts to add up pretty quickly and with a family of six to take care of… Maybe if a bundle was offered we would be more inclined to pick up the rest of Hasbro’s Family Game Night lineup.
All in all Battleship is a great game and just about what you would expect but adds some nice extra flares you can’t replicate with the physical board game. If you were hesitant about this title then be no more! Battleship is wonderful family fun for everyone!!Thanks and Hope you enjoy!!

Not concerned with winning, but I want the game Life added. I have a PC version of it, and it is really fun.

This is a cool article, thanks for the family perspective.
As far as a game I would want, I agree that not having to worry about all the setup and little pieces would make a game like Risk ideal. However, I have to go with Risk's big brother, Axis and Allies.

I've some horrible, and some awesome, memories of Sorry and Battleship whenever I see this on the Marketplace.

I always loved Clue. I think a version of it with online multiplayer would be pretty awesome.

MONOPOLY!!! Even though EA made a game for it on its own. It really should be an Arcade title. I'd play it with my cousin all the time if it were in Arcade.

Honestly, if Life came to the Marketplace, I'd pick that one up pretty swiftly. Always liked having kids and then leaving them in different phases of my life.
"Aw jeez, little Billy got left back at my mid-life crisis!"

i was there when the 4 year old beat the 12 year old! He was not happy! Looked like a Halo Fanboy on a day when Xbox Live is down! The game looked like a ton of fun though! and on-line multiplayer! why can't Sony have this in their arcade games?
and not going to win but i want RISK! or Stratego and not sure if those are Hasbro games or not but those are my choices!

Though Battlefield was my favorite boardgame, I would have to say I would like to see probabally Checkers. I have always loved to play Checkers and it would be cool to play against people over Xbox Live. Maybe even Life as someone above mentioned… I used to love to play that game with my family all the time…

Upwords would be fun and a different change from Scrabble. Life or monopoly would be fun as well.

Risk is probably still my favorite board game….that or the Pacman Board Game

"future" Risk as me and my friends call it or the correct name Risk 2210 A.D! If you havent heard of it/played it, its basicly risk with modified country boarders and new areas on the globe to control. Including the ocean floor and even THE MOON!
